Francesca Kay – Working in data at the ONS and leadership tips

This week, Karen is joined by Francesca Kay, Interim Deputy National Statistician and Director General for Data Capability at the ONS. They will talk about the ONS’ data science campus and projects they work on, as well as using data for good. Frankie will also share her view on leadership, career challenges and success

Francesca is the Deputy National Statistician at the UK Office for National Statistics. In her current role she is leading the use of digital and information technologies, data science and innovative methods to allow ONS to exploit the opportunities of the data revolution. Francesca has worked at the ONS for 10 years in a variety of roles which include leading the transformation of economic and population and public policy statistics. This has included preparing for a digital first Census for England and Wales next year and looking at how different data sources could be used to replace the traditional census in the future. She is currently leading work to establish a cross government data platform in the UK to facilitate data sharing and providing access to data for analytical purposes both within the public sector as well as more widely for researchers.
