The successful digital transformation of the University of Leeds relies on high quality data; this service will enhance the governance and management of data University-wide. Data is not only critical to our day-to-day function, but it also powers vital research activities. Our ultimate goal is a system-wide model that is underpinned by high-quality, readily available data.
Monica Jones, the University’s Chief Data Officer, will be heading up a new Data Services team covering data architecture, modelling, and analysis, as well as data governance and quality specialists. This critical team will provide the analytical and data science expertise that will help enable our students to learn, conduct research, and help shape a better future for everyone through easy access and sharing of data in a collaborative environment.

Monica Jones is the Chief Data Officer for the University of Leeds and Associate Director for Health Data Research (HDRUK), based in Leeds in the UK.
A technical expert and leader with extensive education, science and technology, healthcare knowledge and experience. Highly skilled CDO / CIO and Enterprise Architect with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex, high value solutions to exceptional standards. Many years’ experience defining strategy and directing, current and future, Information and Data Systems.
An effective communicator used to working on major public and private sector initiatives, who is able to integrate teams to achieve their maximum potential. International clinical terminology and data standards (SNOMED CT, ICD-10, HL7 FHIR, OpenEHR) expert promoting safe and effective information for better outcomes. She is the Chair of the Design Authority (DA) and Scientific Committee for HDRUK North.
As Managing Director for Animo Consultancy Ltd she provides specialist technical and advisory consultancy services for HDRUK, CRUK, MRC, Genomics England, NHS, MOD, MOHW; as well as executive coaching and mentoring.
My background is as an architect and construction lawyer, but over my career it has always been about project delivery and maximising opportunities. As a graduate of the Civil Service/University of Oxford Major Projects Leadership Programme, my particular areas of expertise are programme management of complex projects and change programmes; procurement in the public and private sector; public policy; and customer service. I have moved into data over recent years by becoming involved in ensuring that organisations are making best use of their information assets and harnessing the potential of their data. Data holds the key for all aspects of our lives in the 21st century – well managed and accessible as appropriate, it supports both our work and our play, but poorly managed it holds us back and causes significant problems.
Through senior roles in the Civil Service at the Office for National Statistics, the National Portrait Gallery and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) as director and head of profession for project delivery, I have looked after operational delivery, portfolio and investment management and £multi-million transformation programmes, including global technology transformation programmes, estates rationalisation and modernising ways of working.
Most recently, I have programme managed the delivery of the DATA-CAN national cancer trusted research environment for Health Data Research UK as one of the DATA-CAN Management Group. Working with these programmes led me to my current role at University of Leeds and the opportunity to work on the digital transformation programme to take data management to the next level for all areas of the University’s activity. It means I am the eighth member of my family to work at Leeds, the first being my grandfather who was a Professor of Textiles in the 1960s and 1970s, so it feels particularly special to have the opportunity to support the data transformation here.
When I have a chance to relax I enjoy art exhibitions, travel and nature, so it is lovely to be based in North Yorkshire with access to some beautiful countryside.

Rajvind is a member of the Data & Intelligence practice at NTT DATA UK, enabling clients to optimise the use of data, to achieve their business strategy and to implement a data driven business. Rajvind has a proven track record as a Data Management specialist, advising clients on how to effectively manage their data, from ingestion through to insight. She has developed a broad skill set working with clients in the Finance, Media, Automotive and Public sectors.
Rajvind attended King’s College London University where she studied Mathematics. After graduating she started her career at Accenture UK within the Digital practice where she joined the Consulting Graduate Scheme. Rajvind then moved to Vancouver, BC to join the Advisory Practice at KPMG Canada where she helped grow the Digital & Analytics team.
In her free time, Rajvind loves to be outdoors in the nature. Her hobbies include hiking, skiing, running and going to the gym.
