As R&D enters a new era of data driven science, we are building a data engineering capability to ensure we have high quality data captured with context and aligned data models, so that the data is useable and reusable for a variety of use cases.
GSK R&D and Digital and Tech’s collective goal is to deliver business impact, including the acceleration of the discovery and development of medicines and vaccines to patients.  The R&D Digital and Tech remit has expanded over the past 2 years, and to position GSK for the future, The change will strengthen R&D Tech, to provide more strategic impact, focus, accountability, and improved decision making in the use of Digital, Data and Analytics (DDA) to strengthen the pipeline.

 

 

The Product Director, Vaccines Design, Digital & Tech is responsible for delivering a Digital & Tech investment over ~£4M+ /annum and oversees the delivery executed by a workforce of ~60 GSK and 3rd party colleagues. Technology is business critical for R&D from both a compliance and business continuity perspective, an enabler to accelerate medicines and vaccines discovery for patients, as well as a driver of efficient operations within R&D discovery functions.

 

The Product Director, Vaccines Design, Digital & Tech is a trusted thought leader on Tech, Digital, Data, and Analytics to R&D Leaders and is single point accountable owner for relationship management for leaders in Vaccines target discovery and their leadership teams maintaining advising and shaping the strategy of multiple VPs – including the Pharma Discovery space.

 

A significant amount of agility and organisational nuance is required as the individual works with Pharma Research and Vaccines Discovery teams. To achieve this transformation, the Product Director, will develop and lead a single strategic vision and digital roadmap for Vx Design, including the mRNA digital platform and the Structural Biology program technology across all GSK’s research modalities and work in close partnership with the global Digital and Tech functions e.g., Data engineer, enterprise architect, Onyx team, Foundation & Edge computing etc.

 

The Product Director will also work with embedded R&D teams – e.g., Data science teams, providing expertise and help manage risk and enable compliance, quality, and robust application development, leveraging a risk -based approach to action. A supportive leader with a passion for development they will cultivate their department with a sense of creativity, dynamism, and fun to build brilliant products scientists dream of, and those they can’t yet imagine. The role will be a critical player on the Discovery Digital & Tech Leadership Team and will shape the direction for all pharmaceutical discovery and laboratory technology. The leadership role will partner closely with leaders across Scientific Digital & Tech, Research Data Platform and Global Quality Digital & Tech divisions to ensure compliance with rapidly growing regulations (e.g., Data Integrity) and to also unlock new value opportunities in the investigation of new medicines and vaccines.

 

  • Accountable for developing and executing 3-year product roadmaps for all products related Vaccine discovery, in alignment with the R&D strategy and R&D stakeholders. The product roadmaps will be built with a clear focus on value delivery to the R&D strategy and will prioritize investments based on value. End-to-end accountability for products within the product group includes full lifecycle management.
  • Product management: Accountable for managing the product backlog and prioritizing all Digital & Tech services within their respective product domain, ensuring continuous feedback from business customers and end users. Partner with central Tech platform teams to re-use platform tools within R&D as far as possible.
  • Governance: Establish and lead Business Governance bodies, provide oversight and establish business value, manage overall delivery and service performance and manage business risk. Prepare investments in support of the product roadmap for executive governance (e.g., Technology Review Board).
  • Business Process: Design the optimal set of products and services that meets the business strategy and requirements.
  • Quality, Risk & Compliance: Accountable for ensuring all products supporting the business are compliant with internal security, risk management policies and practices, external regulatory and statutory requirements, and that R&D Tech continuity plans are in place for all business-critical products.
  • Service Management: Accountable for ensuring the right services levels are in place and maintained in line with R&D need and the appropriate responses made to Voice of the Process and Voice of the Customer. As products mature ensure an effective hand-over to the Established Products group.
  • Process Improvement: Accountable for driving ongoing product and business process improvements, embedding agile, automation, DevOps and a strong user experience culture
  • Change & Release management: Manage change activity, including Software-as-a-Service delivered change, into the production service in a compliant and efficient manner.
  • Integrations: In collaboration with Solution Architecture, ensure that data integrations are efficient, accurate and secure. This also includes building reporting capabilities that support both operational reporting as well as analytic reporting.
  • People Management: Accountable for line managing of the product owners and matrix leadership of the product team supporting the product group and ensuring ongoing succession planning to maintain activity.

 

 

 

Why You?

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience R&D, Commercial and exposure to product management
  • Experience of Agile and DevOps
  • Experience of vendor management
  • Content knowledge of safety and efficacy domain.
  • Experience in Digital, Tech or IT strategy development, solution design, programme and project delivery and service management, across multiple departments
  • Experience in delivering impact through process and Digital, Tech or IT enabled solutions, across multiple business lines.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PHD in STEM subject or MBA
  • Excellent relationship management, strong influencing, and communication skills at senior level.
  • Experience with modern design techniques, including simulations and creative design-thinking sessions to spark imagination and ideas to solve customer problems.
  • Strong communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to influence senior leadership and decision-making using data and market evidence.
  • Relentless focus on delivering valuable outcomes and simplification with a passion for science and advancing medicines to patients.
  • Experience with latest technology and cloud systems, and specifics systems and technology relevant to R&D.
  • Experience with compliance and regulations (e.g., GxP, data integrity, IT security, privacy)
  • Experience with business analysis techniques including analysing value streams with various methods to identify opportunity area, leveraging analysis for data-driven priority setting.
