Core Responsibilities
This role is passionate about helping the LEGO Group to unlock the value from data. By elevating the Data Proficiency across the organization and delivering a self-service data platform for all data practitioners. This covers a variety of areas from building our analytics data platform and our data visualization and reporting tools, to navigating and guide on data ethics and spearheading innovation through ML and AI. Deep technical and business interpersonal skills are indispensable for this role.
Key areas of responsibility for the Principal Engineer include:
- Leading formulation, technical design, and implementation of high-priority strategic objectives in the Data Office. Current priorities include roll out of our self-service Data Platform, integration with enterprise ERP systems and strengthening of identity governance and authorization model based on Entra ID.
- Formulating the technical roadmap and technology solution design in collaboration with product teams.
- Providing technical leadership across product domains to ensure delivery of outstanding technical solutions.
- Defining a strong, coherent, and long living systems architecture at the LEGO Group as a member of the Principal Engineer community.

The role of the Data Office is to help unlock the value from data, across the LEGO Group. The Data Strategy is about enabling high quality data to flow seamlessly between data producers and data consumers in a Data Marketplace, to drive better and faster data-driven decisions and processes. We are also a Centre of Excellence for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
We build and deploy self-serve solutions to publish data, analyze data and generate insights - with distributed data ownership and clear roles & responsibilities.
Do you have what it takes?
The preferred Candidate is an outstanding technical leader with experience in data and software engineering, communicator, and collaborator who easily connects and builds trusting relations with people inside and outside the organization. This solid experience may have been gained over some years in a technical role, e.g. as a staff/principal engineer or solution architect.
To succeed in this role, the right Candidates preferably have competence within the following:
- Excellent problem solver who is not fixed on technology but looks at how to craft the best possible solution to the challenge.
- Apart from ensuring technical excellence, also work with the organization to practically implement proposed solutions.
- Love a technical challenge and filling in the dots to ensure that all requirements are specified.
- Being a technical champion - have worked with many different technologies and are passionate about learning and staying on top of new technology insights.
Advanced English both written and verbally are needed since we are working closely with the rest of the LEGO Group.
Please Note: Location in Billund or Copenhagen, Denmark but no relocation assistance is offered for this position.
