Salary: The starting salary is £37,289, which includes allowances totalling £2,841. The salary is broken down as £34,448 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £36,864. There is a location allowance of £1,841, and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000

Location: New Scotland Yard, Hendon, Marlowe House in Sidcup, Lambeth and across London at any Met location for a minimum of two days per week, with three days remote working. There is an expectancy to travel to central London three or four times a month for team working

The data office is the single place of accountability across the Met that:

  • owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda
  • brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas
  • consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services
  • enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners

The role

The information asset management team has responsibility for the upkeep of the organisations information asset register. This is to ensure what information assets the organisation holds and to continually review, validate and risk assess. The team work closely with information asset owners to provide advice, promote good practice and maintain compliance with statutory obligations.

Maintenance of the register to ensure all the Met information assets are compliant with the Data Protection Act (DPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and to give confidence and reassurance to the public that we manage their data lawfully and appropriately.

You'll be responsible for:

  • managing the information asset register
  • keeping it up to date and accurate by identifying and recording new information assets
  • reviewing existing assets and record and assess information, such as:
    • information security
    • data lifecycles
    • Rights of Processing Activity (RoPA)
    • other data processing activities

You'll understand the information holdings in the organisation, and where information is held outside of our corporate platform. You'll need to be a collaborator, administrator and advisor with a clear view of all the information assets held across the organisation. You'll need to be able to provide compliance trends by analysing detail on the register for information asset owners and other key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • develop a detailed knowledge of the Met's information assets and the requirements of the DPA
  • proactively engage with those responsible for the day-to-day management of information assets to ensure the register remains accurate
  • provide support to the registrar, raising risks, concerns, trends and weekly key performance indicators
  • provide advice and guidance on how to identify information assets, requirements of the information asset register, and be able to explain the legislative requirements
  • provide administrative support to the information asset owners meeting, including preparation of slides and briefing material
  • provide systems administrative support to the register. Ensure only approved information asset assistants and owners have access to their authorised records held on the register, apply changes to the mail groups and invitation lists held by the team.
