Deep Learning in Keras
Brief Overview
If you don’t work for one of the big tech giants then deep learning may seem out of reach. Thankfully, recent developments have made the Keras Python package available to R users. This means we can now build our own deep networks, layer by layer, without the need to learn other tools.
In this workshop we will introduce the concept of deep learning, how we can use it and where we can get the most from it.
This session will be run using a cloud environment for attendees to access so there are no technical requirements. Attendees should be comfortable with using R and familiar with machine learning concepts.
Interactive Workshop: Participants will need to bring a (fully charged) laptop

Using AI to Solve the Human Problem of Bias
Brief Overview
While it seems that the stigma is deteriorating and we are talking more about mental health issues, we are now faced with the next challenge… what preventative measures can we take to solve this global human problem? Talking things out rather than ruminating mitigates the effects of loneliness, anxiety, stress and depression but do people actually talk about the things that really matter? Even with a solid support system, people feel like they don’t want to burden those around them or believe they have an image or reputation to uphold. In any interaction there are biases that define the willingness of people to talk, or the depth at which they want to talk, whether that be gender, sex, age, ethnicity, sexuality, or even things like background, experience or how long you may know someone. The important thing here is that these biases don’t matter…what matters is the mindset of the person you interact with. Using AI and machine learning, we focus on identifying these mindsets. We are revamping the quality of open and honest conversation by creating a new platform where we are anonymously able to identify mood, personality and preference of people. Using this information, we can then match them through a predictive compatibility matching algorithm to facilitate open and honest conversations due to stripping away the biases.
