The Position

Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO) is recruiting for a position in one of its Data Engine Teams within the Target Discovery Engine (TDE).  We are looking for a candidate with experience in cell biology and high-throughput screening to execute target identification and validation screens and deliver robust data packages to enable target progression. You will work across multiple teams spanning expertise in biology, technology platforms, assay development, data science and IT to enable scaled target discovery using pooled CRISPR and arrayed siRNA/ CRISPR approaches.

Key responsibilities will include enabling automation of new functional/ phenotypic cell-based assays, execution of scaled target identification/ validation campaigns, performing data analysis and interpretation, and communicating results to key stakeholders.

Moreover, you will:

  • Propose and implement new experimental methodologies and enabling technologies for scaled data generation to support prioritization of targets.
  • Work independently as well as in team settings and train colleagues within your area of expertise.
  • Work with external and internal IT colleagues and vendors to enable end-to-end IT integration for process visibility, streamlined operations and data tracking.

Qualifications

We would like to hear from you if you fit any of the criteria we have listed below:

  • PhD in natural science with relevant post doc/industry experience. Research experience in cardiometabolic disease area is valuable.
  • Experience executing a large no. of high-throughput screens using primary cells or cell lines and performing data analysis.
  • Experience using platform technologies to support target discovery, eg: flow cytometry, lab automation systems, high-content imaging, NGS.
  • Experience in CRISPR, cell line development, siRNA/ guide RNA transfection, RTqPCR, immunostaining, HTS assays.
  • Experience developing and validating automation methods and optimizing pipetting performance to achieve precise liquid transfer.

You hold a diligent attention to health and safety requirements, system cleanliness and maintenance. You are a team player and self-starter and are strongly motivated to explore new ideas and methods to drive innovation for the benefit of patients.

About the Department

Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO) is one of Novo Nordisk’s Global Drug Discovery research sites focused on biology and target discovery across the broad spectrum of cardiometabolic disease in Oxford, United Kingdom. Our location in the heart of the University of Oxford medical campus enables two-way collaborations with some of the best medical scientists in the world.

Our mission at the Target Discovery Engine (TDE), Oxford is to identify and validate novel drug targets by efficiently developing scalable approaches, fuelled by data and digital solutions. We utilize human-centric in vitro screening approaches aligned with our therapeutic area and portfolio requirements with the aim to identify targets and key biology to discover new disruptive therapeutics.

The Target Accelerator Group within the TDE has specialists and staff scientists in its sub-teams of Technology Leaders, Assay Architects and Data Engines. We are a dedicated, collaborative team of scientists working with a variety of advanced technologies, including automation and screening, high-content imaging, single-cell sequencing, CRISPR editing, proteomics and peptidomics. We collaborate very closely with the Discovery Biology Group, continually working on strategies to develop new disease models to fuel targets for unmet medical need. Together, we share a passion for translational research and a desire to discover new scientific paths to improve the lives of patients.
