GSK Development and Development Digital & Tech are in the final stages of delivering on a multiyear investment aimed at modernizing the clinical development landscape.  In order to ensure we maximize the value of the data we generate using these new systems in combination with the data assets we acquire externally, new teams in both the R&D Development and Development Digital & Tech organizations are being established to focus on the governance and design.

As Senior Project Manager, Development Tech PMO, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Portfolio Management Office and supporting Development Tech leadership team. This is a horizontal, visible, hands on role with an opportunity to work closely with Development Tech Senior Product Directors and key R&D Business stakeholders to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness of the Development Tech portfolio.  In this role, you will be responsible for designing, delivering, managing and continuously improving a Portfolio Management service with the purpose of proactively connecting, optimizing, and accelerating portfolio delivery, generating insights and enhancing decision making across Development Tech.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Business and Tech subject matter experts to define and deliver the optimal, minimal set of products and services that support Development Tech leadership in monitoring scope, quality, schedule and cost of the strategic portfolio (up to 100M investment per annum).
  • Optimize the delivery of business value by performing user research through qualitative enquiry, quantitative data analysis and user testing to discover key challenges and needs.
  • Ensure an effective portfolio management service by standing up and delivering on a prioritized backlog of demand, communicated continuously and consistently via a value-driven roadmap.
  • Design, deliver and automate robust, sustainable tools and processes for capturing high quality, reusable portfolio level data, that can be leveraged across many use cases.  Ensure availability of “near real time”quality data to support senior leader queries, benchmarking, standard and and ad-hoc reporting requests.
  • Generate analytical and meaningful portfolio insights, identifying benchmarks and delivering opportunities for acceleration. Enable access to real-time portfolio data and deliver dashboards and analytics that will shift the organization from reactive to proactive.
  • Identify cross-functional opportunities within Development Tech and broader R&D Tech, that can accelerate and/or improve progress toward strategic goals.
  • Facilitate discussions with leadership on key portfolio decisions and tradeoffs (value, investment, growth, productivity, capability, etc).
  • In partnership with peers, define product planning standards.  Drive adoption, promote and maintain standards and tools for PMO.
  • Develop, implement and embed an effective portfolio and operations guidance, ensuring predictable, consistent and continuously improving operations.
  • In the role of change agent, support Development Tech teams in agile approaches to portfolio management and adoption, building excitement, momentum, visible success stories and clear value-based versions of vision as roadmap plans come to life.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with these required skills to achieve our goal

  • 5+ years of experience working in an IT product related industry, with experience in IT software delivery, service management, data analytics, data science, data engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a PMO function.with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and product/project management tools
  • 2+ years of experience designing and delivering dashboards that deliver descriptive and predictive analytics (expert knowledge of PowerBI or similar technology)
  • Experience in quickly shaping data into reporting and analytics solutions, generating insights
  • Experience in delivering business impact through process and technology enabled solutions, across multiple business lines
  • Experience in effectively applying Agile principles to accelerate Business outcomes
  • Experience in senior stakeholder management, influencing using data, communication and change management.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Tech / Life Sciences
  • Deep domain knowledge of R&D lifecycle (business operating models, processes & products).
  • Strong understanding of Information Technology systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and deliver significant process improvements
  • Track record of delivering insights and recommendations to business leaders
