The Opportunity

Work with a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers to ensure QBE database platforms and data tools on the private and public cloud are delivered and managed in a compliant way globally as QBE continues to modernize our platforms. Translate database architectural design requirements into patterns by collaborating with technical architects and being supported by third parties on infrastructure services. Provide input to overall management - workforce, budget, technology roadmaps, projects, and tasks.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Has the ability to create architecture design patterns, technology-build standards, and operational process standards to ensure a globally unified approach to meet defined business requirements
  • Has the ability to work with peers and Architecture team to define strategic technology roadmap that aligns with the global architecture vision
  • Can evaluate emerging database technologies to unlock capabilities of new technology products
  • Can evaluate existing QBE database technologies and create awareness of new enhancements and features rolled out by the product vendors
  • Must be able to collaborate with the Architecture community and other CoPs in evaluating and implementing solutions and roadmaps
  • Must be able to standardize support tools and techniques for covering key functions such as monitoring, alerting, and backups
  • Has the ability to creating tools, techniques, and processes for Database Operational team to enable real-time validation and technical assurance of new infrastructure to ensure new build adheres to standards and meets secure by-design requirements
  • Has the specific knowledge on database platform license management and can verify license compliance by establishing vendor-specific effective license positions
  • Can identify purchase requirements to meet current and future projected workloads, and share information with other stakeholders
  • Must maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Design, implement, and operate controls and management strategies to allow this.
  • Has a diverse set of technical expertise; including DevOps tooling, troubleshooting and debug skills, cloud computing, coding/scripting, and infrastructure engineering to provide outstanding customer experiences. Beyond technical qualification, resource will also have a healthy combination of cross-group collaboration skills, communication and relationship building skills.
  • Takes ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Takes full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.
  • Understands and identifies problems, analyzing and helping to identify the appropriate solution. Can classify and prioritize problems, document their causes, and implement remedies.
  • Maintains focus on the whole life of service delivery - designs, develops, delivers, and operates. Ensures that a set of IT products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an IT service.
  • Has the specific knowledge which underpins an individual’s ability to deliver the responsibilities and tasks of their role. This relates to the application of the required breadth and depth of technical knowledge.
  • Has lateral thinking capability to dissect a problem into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing problem resolution. Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open-source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.

 

Required Experience

  • At least 6 years of experience with database administration
  • Expert in various Database Platforms; SQL Server,  Azure databases,  Oracle, DB2 LUW
  • Intermediate knowledge of managing database licenses
  • Intermediate knowledge of data tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synpase, Data Lake..,etc
  • Intermediate knowledge of Azure platform
  • Intermediate knowledge of Database Clustering and SQL Always ON technology
  • Intermediate experience in PowerShell scripting
  • Intermediate knowledge of Enterprise Database backup technologies
  • Intermediate knowledge of Database monitoring tools
  • Intermediate knowledge of Database design, security, and best practice housekeeping activities
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly
