Data with Potential.

You’ll be the Senior Data Scientist for our digital analytics team, helping to process, draw insights and create innovative solutions from multiple data points, presenting your findings and proposals to a range of stakeholders.

You’ll lean heavily into advanced analytics (e.g. machine learning, network analytics, natural language processing, etc.), coding using SQL and Python. You’ll be using software development best practice to create re-useable and extensible codebases.

You’ll be a trusted, senior member of our multidisciplinary Agile team, That means providing technical leadership and guidance to a team of high-performing data scientist and engineers, ensuring the most appropriate data science methods, data sources and technologies are used.

You’ll need the skills to be able to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You’ll be communicating complex data & insights, as well as the intricacy, scope and limitations of data science solutions, and presenting project roadmaps, progress and potential delays & issues.

All in a way that can be understood and taken forward by everyone.

Your essential skills and experience:

  • The ability to lead multiple data science projects to address specific business needs, using the most appropriate techniques, data sources and technologies.
  • An in-depth working knowledge of advanced SQL and Python coding to develop complex solutions within strict timeframes, championing data science development best practice (e.g. quality assurance of code and ethical considerations of unintended biases)
  • Experience of clearly communicating data-driven insights within a business context to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • The ability to drive capability development to coach and mentor junior data scientists, keeping abreast of the wider data science landscape and emerging technologies.

You'll be based in your choice of one of our brilliant digital hubs in Newcastle-upon-Tyne or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

We also have all the tools and tech to work flexibly. We operate a hybrid working model. You can expect to work from home 60% of the time.

We offer competitive pay of up to £63,517 per annum.

Additionally, a Digital Allowance of up to £9,829 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of over 28.97%, worth up to £18,400 per year.

You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising to 31 over time. Plus, all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi leave.
