You‘ll take a leading position in the development and implementation of data solutions within the Commercial Data Team's data lake. Your contributions will be instrumental in delivering substantial business value by addressing various use cases and ensuring the seamless processing of data. If you’re passionate about leveraging data to drive impactful business outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines to handle various data types from multiple sources.
  • Oversee and participate in code reviews, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to coding best practices.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and processing across the team.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to prepare data for advanced analytics, machine learning, and reporting.
  • Automate data processes and workflows to reduce manual interventions and improve efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues within the data pipelines, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Ensure successful and timely delivery of data engineering use cases that meet or exceed business requirements.
  • Develop high-performance data pipelines that ensure smooth and efficient data processing.

What you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience as a data engineer, working with large-scale data infrastructures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with a deep understanding of their application in data engineering.
  • Experience with Databricks, demonstrating strong knowledge of managing data pipelines and transformations.
  • Demonstrable experience with one or more cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data across various storage solutions.
  • Proficiency in data automation tools such as Airflow, ADF, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of information security and data governance principles, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers, lead small-to-medium scale projects, and conduct thorough code reviews.
  • Confident and skilled in explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
