Salary:

The starting salary is £58,310, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.

The salary is broken down as £55,469 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale - £60,507. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location / Hybrid Working:

Primarily the role is based in Sidcup, Lambeth or Hendon, but there may be a need for you to attend offsite meetings as required by the business. We actively support hybrid working solutions and this role is a blended 2 days in office, 3 days WFH.

Security Clearance:

Due to the secure nature of our work, successful candidates must pass all vetting and security requirements, including Counter Terrorism (CTC), before they you can be appointed.

The Role:

The Metropolitan Police Service is seeking an exceptional Senior Data Analyst to lead our data transformation. If you know your SQL queries from your ETL pipelines, and your BI dashboards from your predictive models, we want to hear from you.

In this critical role, you'll spearhead a team of talented analysts working with the Met's massive and unique datasets. From 999 call records to criminal intelligence, you'll have exclusive access to unprecedented data reserves. Your expertise in data wrangling, modelling, and visualisation will directly impact operational strategies, tactical decisions, and frontline policing efforts across London.

We need a true data professional who can distinguish complex SQL statements from database architectures, and turn raw information into clear, actionable insights. You'll showcase your abilities to uncover trends, identify patterns, and translate findings for stakeholders across the organisation.

Essential skills: 

  • BSc in STEM subject or equivalent practical experience within data analysis leadership.
  • Expert level experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Power Query, Tableau, etc.).
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from Relational and/or POLE (Person, Object, Location, Event) databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Create meaningful reports, dashboards, using tools such as Tableau/PowerBI and visualisations to effectively communicate data analysis results to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Practitioner level experience of logging, analysing and managing problems independently in order to identify and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Previous experience in coaching/managing other analysts.
  • Practitioner level experience of conducting descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analysis to identify what happened, why it happened, what might happen next and outline what action should be taken.
  • Experience working in an Office 365 environment including SharePoint and PowerApps.
  • Any working of Python/Java/Scala (or other programming languages), Machine Learning.
  • Awareness of using the Agile Methodology, Code Version control (e.g., GIT), and ETL tools such as AlterYX/SSIS/FME/Python or similar.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply tools and techniques for data analysis and data visualisation, including the use of business information (BI) tools.
  • Identify, collect and migrate data to and from a range of systems.
  • Manage, clean, abstract and aggregate data alongside a range of analytical studies on that data.
  • Lead the Data Analysis element of a multi-disciplinary agile team to logically problem solve
  • Manipulate and link different data sets, providing the business with accurate, relevant and timely data, research and performance information that contributes to a culture of continuous improvement, enhanced efficiency and evidence-based decision-making in the police.
  • Summarise and present data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users
  • Build dashboards conform to principles identified by the Dashboard Delivery Group.
  • Business liaison, requirements gathering, negotiating and agreeing deliverables with other teams/units.
  • Act as point of escalation for Data Modelling and Data Visualisation requests and queries
