It’s an exciting time to join the team here at AXA, with significant investment planned in all UK&I businesses to transform and deliver new digital services to our customers and streamline and automate our business processes and we’re looking for two Principal Integration Engineers to join us.

Reporting into the Head of Solution Integration, you’ll spearhead the design, development and implementation of complex integration solutions ensuring seamless data flow between systems. This role provides technical leadership and strategic direction for integration projects, driving innovation and operational efficiency.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Directing the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and efficient integration architectures across multiple platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals
  • Defining and implementing an enterprise-wide API strategy, ensuring standardized API design, development, security, and lifecycle management for both internal and external systems
  • Acting as the technical liaison between various teams (development, operations, business) to ensure integration solutions align with organizational objectives and deliver seamless data flow
  • Establishing governance frameworks for integration and data flow, ensuring adherence to security policies, regulatory compliance and industry best practices
  • Providing leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to the integration engineering team, promoting best practices and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
  • Driving continuous improvement in integration processes by adopting automation, DevOps practices, and modern integration techniques like microservices and event-driven architectures
  • Overseeing the configuration and management of integration platforms like MuleSoft, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of middleware solutions
  • Proactively addressing performance issues or failures, ensuring high availability and minimal disruptions across integrated services

What you’ll bring: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in Integration Platforms
  • Knowledge of serverless architecture, containerization and orchestration tools e.g. Kubernetes and Docker
  • Proven delivery experience including programmatic principles, delivery leadership, servant leadership and cross team dependencies
  • Expertise in designing and implementing integration architectures, including APIs, microservices, and messaging systems
  • Proficiency in developing, deploying, and managing APIs using tools like MuleSoft, or Azure API Management
  • Strong understanding of Agile development, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
  • Passion for development best practices with a good understanding of API best practice design concepts, authentication and integration patterns
