The Position

The Lead Data Scientist within the Imaging Analytics department will contribute to the research team's efforts towards exploring and creating new technologies and being a world leader in data science within our fields. In this position you will drive strategies that build internal capabilities for delivering novel therapeutics to patients and improve image-based biomarkers & analysis workflows that support short- and long-term growth of therapeutic areas at Novo Nordisk.

You will explore data requirements that aid in unravelling the cause of the disease and provide insights for novel drug targets focusing on medical imaging. Part of your role will be engagement with various stakeholders, from Medical & Science medical directors to AI and Analytics (AIA) data scientists, to scope and deliver proposed solutions will be a daily task and so will be understanding and adopting of regulatory requirements for deploying AI/ML/SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) solutions as clinical trial endpoints.

Some of your responsibilities will be to:

  • Optimize imaging modalities and biomarker review & proposition for trials targets and endpoints for AIA and clinical stakeholders
  • Propose, scope, and define impactful AIA/IA projects while connecting imaging physics/physiology/analytics/AI to our objectives and must-win battles
  • Work with Therapy Area study directors & scientific advisors to understand and prioritize problem statement
  • Provide multi-omics and cross-departmental strategic support
  • Stay abreast of evolving AI landscape & technologies
  • Define requirements and execution of collaborative programming pipeline development

This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days a week in our brand-new office in London.

Qualifications

In this role it is necessary to have either a PhD degree with strong professional experience or a master’s degree with a well-established expertise. Degree within computer science, mathematics, radiology, (medical-) engineering, (imaging-/medical-) physics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline is preferred.

Furthermore, you have/are:

  • Experience in cross-disciplinary development with multi-modal medical imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, PET etc.), advanced analytics/computer vision/AI and imaging biomarkers for translational and clinical applications
  • Innovative problem-solving that connects business/development needs to address medical research, drug discovery & clinical trials
  • Subject matter expert in integrating imaging physics, physiology, and AI model development in several therapy areas (Obesity, Diabetes, CVD, MASH etc.)
  • Strong communication skill and experience with interacting between clinical, engineering & business teams
  • Comfortable navigating uncertainty with a track record for providing both practical and innovative solutions to address unstructured medical/research questions

Ideally, you have hands-on experience with deep learning for computer vision using deep/machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Sklearn, etc., and solid understanding of deep learning theory: CNN, Transformers, RNN, GANs etc. and its various applications like classification, object detection, segmentation.

Experience in defining, developing, and validating computer vision algorithms against clinical data, ensuring appropriateness of fit for data science processes is highly preferred.
