The Opportunity

QBE Europe (EO) is currently recruiting for a Head of Data Excellence. QBE EO has embarked on a journey of growth in Data and Analytics through the implementation of new data management capabilities, including data governance, data quality and master data management. This is a pivotal role in embedding best practice for data management across the enterprise and as such we are looking for an experienced Data Management Leader to join our organisation, where you will be responsible for developing, embedding and maturing data excellence capabilities, and guide our business to embed best practice for data management. Your strong foundation in data, communication skills, ability to influence senior stakeholders as well as engage and work with key colleagues will ensure success in this role.

Your new role

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Data Excellence team, which includes data governance, data quality and master data management, and ensure continued development of the function in line with the data strategy.
  • Drive adoption of data management tooling - Collibra and Ataccama - throughout the business, primarily via data hub initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a fit-for-purpose data excellence report to be presented at relevant forums, whilst overseeing the development of effective management reporting and escalation processes to ensure the Data Council and all key stakeholders are suitably engaged and informed.
  • You will Co-Chair the Data Council with the Director of Data, whilst establishing clear accountability and roles and responsibility for key teams involved in data governance and data quality management through the embedment of a data accountability framework.
  • You will be accountable for the completion of Solvency II data related activities and ensure full compliance with regulation ensuring process is completed successfully. You will also be accountable for the appropriateness of the Data Policy and any other relevant documents ensuring all risk are reviewed within the data domain including the annual risk control self-assessment process.
  • Be responsible for fostering collaborative relationships with business leaders and empower the team to build positive relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring you provide oversight and effective relationships with data related projects, including those managed across different business areas.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of establishing and maintaining relationships across the business and functions to influence behaviour and policy where required
  • Confident and credible individual capable of bringing thought leadership to the management of data excellence team and respective activities
  • Strong communications skills as well as strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven experience of consistent and constructive people management capabilities.
