GIS Engineer
Location: Northallerton, HQ Alverton Court, with the opportunity for hybrid working.
Salary: SO2 £36,996 - £39,036
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00 and Friday 08:30-16:30

We are looking for a talented Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Engineer to join the Applications Development team to contribute to the design, development and implementation of GIS Applications for North Yorkshire Police (NYP), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) and Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning (OPFCC).
The role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of the information held within the gazetteer and mapping systems as well as ensuring the computer systems critical to public safety have access to up-to-date mapping and addressing information. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Investigating and resolving problems arising with Gazetteer and Mapping data
• Providing GIS application support to users
• Define and develop GIS data and systems
• Act as a primary contact with Ordnance Survey (at senior grade)
• Provide geospatial advice to Business users to increase its use and effectiveness
The person
You will have the ability to work on multiple tasks at any one time while maintaining high quality standards. You will be a good communicator and have the ability to work on your own initiative as well as being able to provide clear and accurate advice to staff at all levels.
Experience in a Cartographic, GIS environment or Gazetteer environment and knowledge of NEC Universe GIS /Cadcorp GIS or other major GIS System is an advantage but not essential. A degree in GIS or Geography would also be advantageous.

Where are we?
Northallerton is the market town of North Yorkshire and has an abundance of cafes and eateries along its historical, but modernised high street. The town is easily accessed by the two main roads going north to south – A19 and A1 – or by public transport.
By train:
· Trains from Middlesborough run about every 20 / 30 minutes, take approx. 30 minutes and cost approx. £12 / 14 return (Anytime)
· Trains from York run between every 5 / 30 minutes, take approx. 28 minutes and cost approx. £22 / 25 return (Anytime)
· Trains from Leeds are about every 10 / 15 minutes, take approx. 50 minutes and cost approx. £35 / 45 return (Anytime)
By Car:
· Northallerton is about 7 miles from the A1 Leeming Bar junction or 13 miles from the A19 / A168 Thirsk junction.
· Darlington and Ripon are only a mere 13 miles and takes approx. 30 minutes
· Harrogate is only about 30 miles and will take about 50 minutes
