About the job
Motorway has been disrupting the used car marketplace for the last 5 years. Our digital product offerings have received very positive feedback from our customers and won many awards in the auto industry. We are now at a point where we would like to propel our digital products to the next level of engineering. This comes with the challenges of moving fast while following the best engineering practices. In order to achieve this efficiency, we are reorganising ourselves in such a way so that we can work on short and long term initiatives in a more decoupled fashion.
We are looking to appoint technically skilled Engineering managers who can help us build the next generation of Motorway products. In an effort to keep the teams lean, our engineering managers will be directly managing a team of senior frontend and backend developers. They will own the implementation of the roadmap for their squads within 3 strategic pillars.
What you'll do:
- Develop high performing teams – Mentoring and promoting career growth by providing feedback, learning & development opportunities to your team. This includes keep close tabs on the team's health.
- Be a technology leader – You'll be the technical sounding for your team with a strong focus on quality, performance, reliability, scalability & maintainability. This is not a hands-on role but you should be able to drive system design and architectural solutions.
- You will own the delivery of the projects end to end. This means taking ambiguous requirements and breaking them down into high level milestones which will help your squad deliver value iteratively.
- You will be part of the EM guild that works with the Heads of Engineering to set standards around best practices. This can span from planning, coding, design, quality, monitoring, deployment and security practices. You will be accountable to implement these practices in your squads
- Drive design and planning activities by removing ambiguities, resolving dependent question and providing high level engineering estimates
- Guide your squads through execution — You will guide your squad to run agile ceremonies on a day-to-day basis. Being accountable for your team's backlog, helping them balance technical debt work and feature deliverables.

- Solid and demonstrable experience leading engineering teams.
- You are able to whiteboard technical solutions and system design, know good engineering practices and patterns.
- You're able to triage and identify issues within the system and prevent issues from occurring.
- You are an engineering leader who embraces servant leadership principles.
