About the role

We are seeking a DevOps Lead to drive our AWS cloud strategy and lead a team of DevOps and DBA engineers for our Boots Online Doctor healthcare platform. You will have deep expertise in AWS services and cloud architecture, with a focus on implementing scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions. As a leader, you will mentor a team, foster collaboration across departments, and define key performance metrics.

In this role, you will be responsible for optimising cloud operations, managing security and compliance, and automating processes to enhance efficiency. You will also play a crucial role in strategic decision-making by collaborating closely with Head of Cloud, Head of Engineering, Head of Services and senior leadership to align DevOps initiatives with overall business goals.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as you will be required to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

AWS Expertise and Technical Leadership

  • Develop and implement a robust AWS cloud strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Design and architect cloud solutions that adhere to AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
  • Possess a deep understanding of AWS services including EC2, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, RDS, Aurora MySQL, CloudFront, CloudFormation, Terraform, ECS Fargate, EKS, Elasticache, and Redshift.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the DevOps team.
  • Stay up-to-date with AWS services, best practices, and industry trends.

Team Management and Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers and database administrators (DBAs).
  • Foster a collaborative culture within the team and across departments.
  • Define team goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
  • Provide regular feedback and performance reviews.
  • Manage team resources and allocate tasks effectively.

Cloud Operations and Optimisation

  • Ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of cloud environments.
  • Implement cost-optimisation strategies and track cloud spending.
  • Manage cloud security and compliance (IAM, security groups, VPCs, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Process Improvement and Standardisation

  • Define and implement DevOps processes and standards.
  • Automate manual processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Conduct regular reviews of cloud infrastructure and processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes.

Strategic Partnership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with the IT Director, Head of Cloud Platform, Head of Engineering, and Head of Services to refine cloud platform architecture and strategy.
  • Align DevOps initiatives with overall business objectives and the IT roadmap.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to engineering and services teams.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Present complex technical information clearly and understandably.
  • Build strong relationships with business owners and IT teams.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment with overall business goals.

What you’ll need to have

  • Experience of DevOps Toolchain and Automation via the following:
  • Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using Git Actions and Jenkins.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and practices.
  • Develop automation scripts for routine tasks and operational processes.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting systems using tools like CloudWatch.
