Greenpeace is a movement of people who are passionate about defending the natural world from destruction. Our vision is a greener, healthier and more peaceful planet, one that can sustain life for generations to come. We find ourselves at a pivotal point in human history. Climate change is rapidly accelerating and we are feeling the effects of it ever more – in the changes to our air, sea levels and more extreme weather events.

We are looking for a constructive disruptor and change agent and an outstanding data and insights professional to lead an ambitious project of embedding data informed audience strategy and tactics right at the heart of Greenpeace UK’s campaigns, fundraising and organising. Your expertise will enable us to level up our fight to tackle the climate and nature emergencies.

We have already been on an ambitious journey to understand our potential and existing supporters, the ecosystem we operate in, and how our campaigns are performing, with the objective of enabling us to have a stronger impact in driving the sustainability agenda. We have integrated new tools, methodologies, and ways of thinking. Now we are on a journey of implementing our audience vision into our technology stack, our insights, and planning that impacts the rest of the organisation.

As such, the scope and responsibilities for our future Deputy Director of Data, Planning and Insights is both broad and ambitious. We do not expect one individual to have mastered each element of the role, however we highly recommend you to apply if you fall into one of the following focus areas:

  • Audience analysis and behavioural science
  • Advanced performance marketing and/or marketing attribution analytics, modelling and financial forecasting
  • Data science, specifically ML/NLP and data architecture

The role:

  • The role will lead an organisational data and insight driven approach to make evidence-based decisions to maximise our impact
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of our overall fundraising and campaigning strategies
  • This role will ensure the delivery of strategic and actionable data insights, analytics, data science approaches and audience understanding to inform our fundraising and campaigning goals, strategies and tactics
  • The role has ultimate responsibility for our data governance, data architecture and data quality and will ensure the provision of supporter data to meet strategic needs

Qualities and skills:

  • Proven experience of developing and implementing cross-organisational strategies that embed data, planning and insights to meet marketing/fundraising, customer/supporter engagement and campaign goals in the voluntary, private or public sector.
  • Significant experience in at least two of the following areas: audience analysis and intervention design; data science and systems design; financial forecasting techniques; and impact measurement through attribution models
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of data-driven marketing techniques
  • Experience of championing a data- and insights-led approach, with proven ability to translate complex data and insights into actionable, strategic recommendations
  • Excellent collaborator who can work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with mixed-methods approaches to tackle challenging questions related to human behaviour that enable teams across the organisation to answer “the why”

Promoting diversity is at the forefront of what Greenpeace do and our focus doesn’t stop at our staff. We are constantly striving to better diversity in all aspects of our organisation, through who we employ, the experiences we represent and the changes for which we campaign.

We recognise the value in having a diverse workforce, as well as the importance of creating equal opportunities for all. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We select candidates based on how well they meet the criteria for the role and are committed to ensuring that applicants are treated fairly throughout the recruitment process.
