We are looking for an inquisitive and focussed individual, keen to make an impact using innovative analytic methods. As a Senior Data Scientist you will have a passion for data science and will be eager to drive forward the use of machine learning and advanced analytics throughout the Admiral group.

Data and technology take centre stage in delivering our market-leading products, and we have a large Data Science function that builds and deploys machine learning solutions for all business areas, including Pricing, Marketing, and Claims.

You will work closely with Stakeholders from the business developing machine learning models using a variery of cutting-edge techniques. You will work closely with the relevant stakeholders throughout the process, from generating ideas to implementation and model results.

You must have significant experience in machine learning or statistics and be ready to expand your skills as the field progresses. You should be comfortable in a culture where decision making is evidenced-based and reliant on rigorous analysis.

You are self-motivated and able to work independently, able to work well in a team and capable of delivering to agreed timelines in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Main Duties

  • Solve business problems using a range of advanced statistical, machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Research new ideas and stay up to date with the world of data science.
  • Work closely with the other members of the team to ensure models are easy to deploy.
  • Be an advocate for data science within Admiral, helping the business understand where and when it can add value to their processes.
  • Supporting with the management and development of the Graduate Data Scientists and Data Scientists within the team.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts and Senior Managers to understand and solve problems by asking the right questions and delivering appropriate solutions.

Desirable skills and experience

  • 4+ years experience working in Data Science or a relevant field including experience working on projects involving general insurance pricing or fraud detection.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or other technical field.
  • Commercial experience using supervised learning techniques such as decision trees, GLMs, random forests or gradient boosted ensembles.
  • Proficient in relevant tools such as R, Python, SparkML, SAS, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences and a desire to work within a fast paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to confidently challenge business leaders using simple and compelling language.

Interview process

There will be a 2 stage interview including an assesment.

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
