We are looking for a Data Scientist (12 month FTC) to work on projects that directly impact our audience engagement strategies, optimise user experience and foster stronger connections with our readers and supporters.
About the Role
You’ll play a vital role in shaping our organisation's success by leveraging your technical and analytical skills. Collaborating with cross-functional teams spanning Editorial, Marketing, Sales and Product & Engineering, your work will drive innovation and problem-solving, influencing how we deliver news and engage with our audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis and Insights: Using advanced analytical techniques to extract meaningful insights from large datasets related to audience behaviour, content consumption patterns and other trends.
- Developing Models and Algorithms: Create predictive models, algorithms and machine learning techniques to improve decision making processes.
Experimental Design and Testing: Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses, measure the effectiveness of new features and drive continuous improvement of our models’ performance. - Data Infrastructure and Tool Development: Contribute to the development and enhancement of data infrastructure, tools, and systems to streamline ML lifecycle.
- Communicating Insights: Present complex data findings in a clear and understandable manner to technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
About You
- Professional Experience: At least 3 years experience in a data science role, ideally within digital media.
- Data Handling Expertise: Proficiency in managing both structured and unstructured data, including retrieval, integration, cleaning and manipulation.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to apply analytical, statistical and machine learning techniques to real-world data problems.
- Machine Learning Knowledge: A deep and up-to-date understanding of machine learning algorithms including advanced technologies such as GAI and their application to diverse data sets.
- Natural Language Processing: Proficiency in NLP algorithms and techniques for text analysis and language understanding.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Python, its libraries and database programming languages, in particular SQL.
- Experience working with NLP is a plus.
- An excellent command of libraries for data science: NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Keras etc.
- Experience with version control and automatic testing of code.
