Data Science Engineer Manager – Audit
Location: Edinburgh City Centre
Salary: £66,861 - £74,290 + excellent rewards package
Hours: Full – time
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site

About the role:
This is a hands-on and multifaceted role within a skilled and encouraging central team of data analysts, scientists, and engineers who are highly visible to senior management, with exposure to the entire Group.
We're looking for someone with a passion for data science and engineering, with strong customer focus and prepared to understand internal auditing, to join our innovative and collaborative team!
You'll work across all stages of the data science life cycle from problem identification to crafting and implementing applications that utilise data analytics and machine learning techniques. These will support delivery of our audit plan, provide insights, and drive innovation within Group Audit & Conduct Investigations.

What you'll be doing...
- Lead multiple data science and application development projects concurrently with great autonomy. Programming tasks will include working on the design, implementation, and delivery of applications, designing and creating data models and data pipelines in a mixed on-premise and Google Cloud Platform environment.
- Lead other team members and work closely with stakeholders whilst acting as a project lead and applying agile project management and standard methodologies in software development.
- Work collaboratively across the audit function to identify innovative opportunities to apply data science techniques for business monitoring, audit planning, and audit delivery.
- Communicate on technical areas in plain, simple language that is easy to understand.
- Acquire sufficient levels of auditing and business knowledge so that all deliveries are fit for end users’ purpose, positively impact the quality of the department’s assurance work, and improve capabilities.
- Answer queries and provide support to end users for existing utilities.
What we're looking for...
Key skills, knowledge and experience required to be successful in this role:
- Working experience leading application development and data science projects, involving techniques such as graph theory, machine learning, or natural language processing.
- Proven ability to produce data science models for non-technical users while applying best practices in software development and ensuring that key data science, engineering, and programming concepts are applied.
- Experience with designing and implementing infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience at leading peers or more junior colleagues on projects, holding colleagues accountable, ensuring the quality and timeliness of the project delivery, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- A demonstrable competence in managing stakeholders, communicate in a way that a lay audience can understand.
- Ability to support colleague development through providing training, coaching and feedback as appropriate to upskill the team and the wider function.
- Proficiency in mainstream data science programming languages such as Python or R, and the use of data analytics tools such as SQL or PowerBI, or Tableau.
- Ability to review complex code and are familiarity with version control.
Desirable knowledge, skills & experience:
- Previous financial services, audit or risk experience is an advantage.
- Previous experience in web application development (Django, Bootstrap, jQuery) is an advantage.
