Data rights officer

Salary: The starting salary is £37,289 which includes allowances totalling £2,841. The salary is broken down as £34,448 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £36,864. There is also a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000

The Commissioner and Management Board have determined that the Met will be a data driven organisation. This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods and technology, as a strategic asset.
The data office is the single place of accountability across the Met that:
- owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda
- brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas
- consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services
- enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partner
The role
The data rights officer will oversee the completion of all information rights applications processed, including all requests for access such as, Data Protection Act (DPA) access and disputes, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and insurance cases.
You'll be responsible for supervising the data rights support staff and report direct to the data rights lead.
Responsibilities
You will:
- liaise with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in relation to concerns they have received about the way the Met has processed Data Protection Act, UK-General Data Protection Regulation (UK-GDPR) and Freedom of Information Act applications.
- work with the data rights training officer to address gaps for the data rights officer and teams
- complete all aspects of data access applications receive. This includes all DPA access and disputes, insurance and FOIA requests, and liaison with the Directorate of Legal Services (DLS), Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) or National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) as required on casework-related enquiries
- process validated FOIA responses for upload to the Met Publication Scheme
- lead on disclosure risk assessment desk (DRAD) practices and procedure
- undertake administration of the of data rights guidance toolkits
- attend any relevant meetings to support the data rights lead as directed
- manage the processing of work of the data rights officers relating to FOIA, DPA, UK-GDPR, or data disputes
- administer redaction activities, of Body Worn Video (BWV) and CCTV (and emerging technologies) that are relevant to data rights work, utilising data rights officers where required
- provide insight on management information as required by senior leadership team (SLT)
- keep specialist knowledge up-to-date with changes in legislation, NPCC and ICO guidance
- be responsible for the development of direct reports in line with the knowledge and information management (KIM) framework, reflecting this in performance reviews for staff and learner journeys
- undertake other tasks as required
Additional information
A vetting level of Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) is required, all applicants must be willing to undertake Security Clearance (SC) once in post.
