The Commissioner and Management Board have determined that the Met will be a data driven organisation. This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods and technology, as a strategic asset.

The data office is the single place of accountability across the Met that:

  • owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda
  • brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas
  • consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services
  • enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partner

The role

The data rights lead will be responsible for the management of Met compliance with information rights applications pursuant to legislation processed by the service.

  • Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA for access and disputes)
  • UK-General Data Protection Regulation (UK-GDPR)
  • Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR)
  • Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)
  • National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC)
  • Association of British Insurers Memorandum of Understanding (ABI MOU). This includes advising on all relevant statutory duties and legislative obligations.

You'll be responsible for supervising the data rights managers, their teams in support of this work and report direct to the head of data rights.

Vacancies

There are three data rights lead vacancies that cover two areas, which have slightly different areas of responsibility and are subject to change to allow for professional development:

  • omni-competent
  • complaints and learning

Additional information

Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is committed to creating an inclusive working environment. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are seeking flexible working arrangements, including part time working, job share or carers and career break returners. We also support blended working and the hiring manager will be happy to discuss arrangements for this role.

A vetting level of Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) is required and all applicants must be willing to undertake Security Clearance (SC) once in post.

The personal statement and statement of suitability should be 1,000 words maximum. Please provide evidence to support your knowledge, ability and work within the Data Rights space, especially experience with legislation such as the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
