The Role:

London’s challenges are ever-evolving, and the Met is responding with a commitment to becoming a truly data-driven organisation. By treating data as a strategic asset—just like our people, technology, and methods—we can deliver better outcomes for the public and ensure we’re prepared for the future. This is where you come in.

As a Data Manager (RRD), you’ll be at the heart of this transformation, ensuring that the Met’s approach to data is efficient, compliant, and built for the modern age. You’ll work on critical records management processes, embedding best practices and supporting key decisions on the review, retention, and disposal of data. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about enabling smarter, evidence-based policing to make London safer.

You’ll work as part of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT), a team that ensures the Met has the right tools, systems, and expertise to meet its mission of “More Trust, Less Crime, High Standards.”

What we can offer:

  • Hybrid working arrangements for a healthy work-life balance
  • Excellent contributory pension scheme for your financial future
  • 28 days annual leave (excluding public holidays), rising to 33 days after 5 years continuous service
  • Personal and professional development opportunities
  • Enrolment with the Met’s employee incentive partner, Edenred, giving access to a range of rewards and incentives
  • Access to a range of financial products via the Metropolitan Police Trading Service, including preferred credit facilities
  • Generous family leave for pregnancy, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave
  • Childcare support including nursery and play scheme discounts
  • Access to the Bluelight Emergency Services discount card with a range of official discounts from large national retailers to local businesses including holidays, cars, days out, fashion, gifts, insurance, phones and much more.
  • A substantial range of health and wellbeing benefits including physiotherapy, 24/7 rehabilitation services and free eye tests.
  • To promote physical well-being, you will have full access to subsidised sports centre membership to over 3,000 UK gyms and 80 London Fitness Centres. There is also an excellent range of sporting activities on offer through the various Met Police Sports and Social Clubs.

On a Daily Basis You’ll:

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in records management and RRD processes for physical and digital information.
  • Guide colleagues and senior management on legislative requirements and best practices.
  • Profile and interrogate systems to support critical decision-making.
  • Ensure information is managed ethically and disposed of when it no longer serves a policing purpose.
  • Work alongside Data Foundations to develop our organisation-wide understanding of data quality, management, and retention. Identify and preserve records of historical importance in the public interest.
  • Support Freedom of Information and Business Justification Plan reviews.
  • Train and support colleagues to enhance data literacy across the Met.

You’ll start with tailored training to develop your knowledge of legislative obligations, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information Act 2000, as well as College of Policing guidelines.

Ideally, You’ll Be:

  • Organised, with the ability to juggle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confident communicating with a range of stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Curious and willing to learn—whether it’s about data, systems, or legislation.
  • A team player who enjoys problem-solving and collaboration.
  • Skilled in Office 365, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (intermediate to advanced).

Why Join Us?

This is more than just a job. At the Met, you’ll:

  • Help shape the future of policing in London.
  • Work in a team that values innovation and collaboration.
