About the Team

 

This role sits within our data management office function. We support projects across technology, policy, research, operations, people, and ICT. We are part of the wider Corporate Group. Ofcom’s Corporate Group is playing a central role, transforming the way in which we use in-depth technical and analytical knowledge, and awareness of the broader tech sector, to drive our regulatory and policy work.

 

The group’s work spans critical sectors, from broadband and mobile networks to broadcast TV and radio services. And now we are responsible for regulating UK video sharing platforms leading the technical work as we gear up to regulate online safety and ensure people can live a safer life online. We’re also building a deeper understanding of the role that cross-cutting technologies such as artificial intelligence and deep learning play across all our sectors.

Purpose of the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a small, dynamic team that operates at the heart of our cross-Ofcom data teams. The Data Project Manager in the Chief Data Office is responsible for co-ordinating and tracking Data deliveries and supporting the Data Team more widely in its engagement with our business stakeholders.

The role will involve ensuring that the new project delivery workflow and programme governance frameworks are effectively embedded throughout the organisation for all teams undertaking Data projects, and keeping stakeholders informed of progress. You will collate requirements onto the backlog, work with the Data team and stakeholders to prioritise tasks and ensure on time delivery, making connections to support the Chief Data Officer, Directors and Principals working in data fields across Ofcom.

The role holder will need an interest in data, they will have exposure to the latest advances in the data and analytics sphere and will need to assimilate this information for presentation at the highest levels of Ofcom.

Key responsibilities

  • Engage directly and confidently with stakeholders across Ofcom and support delivery of Data projects and the wider Data Programme of Work.
  • Promote Data team capabilities across the organisation.
  • Work with business stakeholders to review and triage requirements and ensure these are logged and tracked to completion, as the ongoing point of contact between Data and Ofcom Groups
  • Work with the development teams to ensure commitments are met; proactively address and resolve blockers or issues.
  • Progress reporting for audiences at all levels, using a range of multi-media communications tools.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Chief Data Office by working flexibly across portfolios when needed.
  • Work with colleagues in the Data Teams to ensure a joined-up approach.

Skills, Knowledge and experience

Essential:

  • Significant project management experience ideally in a data team/ business transformation context
  • The ability to communicate project status reports clearly using visual tools and templates.
  • The ability to develop highly effective working relationships with a wide range of senior contacts across Ofcom;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both oral and written;
  • The ability to get to the heart of complex issues quickly;
  • To be highly organised, able to respond quickly to change and to work in a flexible and agile way to meet the needs of the Chief Data Officer and the team;
  • To be a team player, supporting other members of the team with their tasks, as needed;
  • A broad knowledge of Ofcom’s business and the wider stakeholder and policy environment in which we operate.

Technical skills:

  • Power BI dashboards
  • Azure stack – Azure DevOps desirable
  • Microsoft Planner, Project
  • Advanced PowerPoint/ visualisation and storytelling skills

Desirable:

  • Business analysis skills
