Data Product Owner

This is a brand-new role within our rapidly growing Customer Decision Science and Analytics team. You will be the lynchpin of a multi-talented squad of data professionals dedicated to the development and implementation of a critical data product which cuts across data engineering and data science. Working closely with a wide array of stakeholders, you will own the long-term roadmap and vision as well as the day-to-day prioritisation and management of the product development, ensuring that we build a great product that creates tangible value.
Your role
You will work as part of Asda's Customer Data Science and Analytics team. As a Data Product Owner, you will:
- Define and execute the product vision, strategy, and roadmap
- Collaborate with colleagues across teams dedicated to Asda Rewards, media partnerships, personalisation, and insights to identify opportunities and ensure that your data product roadmap is designed to meet the commercial objectives of your stakeholders
- Define product features and user stories, working closely with the data engineers and data scientists to ensure they are delivered on time and to specification
- Manage and prioritise the product backlog
- Be the trusted main contact for your data product
- Communicate status updates and roadmaps to your stakeholders
- Evangelise your data product, ensuring that users and potential users understand its value, its limitations, and its potential
- Own the stakeholder-facing documentation for your product, including release updates
- Collect qualitative and quantitative feedback to analyse the success of your product
- Conduct research to stay ahead of commercial and technological industry trends
About You
- Educated to degree level, ideally in a relevant STEM discipline
- Significant experience as a Product Owner (or similar) for data products
- Strong understanding of data engineering and data science concepts, and previous experience working alongside these roles
- Strong understanding of the product development process and agile methodologies
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strategic and analytical thinker
- Excellent initiative and ability to flourish in an open-ended role
- Experience in, and understanding of, data-driven personalisation is desirable but not essential
