Why our role

Data is key to delivering our strategy. Since 2021, we’ve been on a journey to modernize our data infrastructure and related capabilities, allowing us to consolidate our data estate, to shorten and simplify internal processes, and to better share data and insight within the organisation.

After a period of migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Braze and Tableau, we now collect more customer journey data. The plan is to use this data to drive more efficient and focused marketing campaigns, to improve our analytics and algorithms at scale, and to introduce more self-service tools!

To do this, we are looking for a Data Product Owner, to support the GCP Engineering platform team, which is made up of three smaller teams. This is a hybrid role, and involves handling day-to-day in-team delivery, prioritising the most important to be done first, and being the voice of the users when building back-end products.

What will you be doing?

  • Coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups, coaching team members in Agile frameworks
  • Ensure sprints align with the roadmaps, resolving any ambiguity around requirements, attaining clear consensus, and keeping everybody updated about changes and amendments
  • Be the point of contact for external communications with stakeholders, protecting the team from unnecessary distraction
  • Build relationships with finance, compliance, marketing, and product & tech functions to understand business goals and user needs, translating them into requirements, epics and stories.
  • Zoom out of the day-to-day to collaborate with Head of Engineering and Engineering Leads in creating roadmaps for high-impact longer-term initiatives

What to expect from our interview process:

Our Data interview processes are generally 3 stages:

  1. Screening call with Chess (recruiter) - 30 mins
  2. Video interview with Ada (Hiring Manager) and another colleague - 45 mins
  3. Case study based interview with Ada and other colleagues - 90 mins

What do we need from you?

  • Proven track record to embed Agile and to encourage the team to be self-sufficient, with a servant leader mentality
  • Proven knowledge of Scrum/ Agile methodology and artifacts
  • Ability to understand what users want vs need, and to how capture clear requirements
  • Deep knowledge of various prioritisation frameworks, using them to build roadmaps, and to communicate the “what” and “why”
  • Ability to analyse and distill sophisticated problems, making clear decisions backed by evidence
  • Proven success working in a very fast-paced environment and to dealing with changes, balancing short-term requests vs longer-term strategy
  • Resilience if priorities change, and timely communication to share with the team
  • Experience around applying data security, data protection and GDPR pragmatically into what we build
