Data Governance Lead

The Opportunity
QBE Europe is currently looking to recruit an Data Governance Lead to join a well-established and successful data management team based in the London office. QBE is developing and investing in its data management capabilities, and we are creating the position of Group Data Office - Data Governance Manager. This is a global role, responsible for developing and implementing the data governance framework, establishing effective processes to ensure data is managed effectively and QBE comply with data related regulations. This role also requires the coordination of group wide reporting, establishing standards, policies, procedures and facilitation across various councils, committees, and divisions. Communications, identification of positive outcomes, and the company-wide elevation of data governance capabilities will be key to success. You will act as product owner for the data governance capability and application (Collibra) - to help ensure the successfully delivery of strategic objectives, including (but not limited to) process, people and technology required. Reporting to the Group Head of Data Management, you will work closely with the Group Data Office, programme and project management, divisional data governance teams and with business partners.
Your new role
- Definition of data governance guiding principles, strategy, policies, and roadmap
- Drive the global data governance community to support divisional and group data governance objectives.
- Act as and provide SME knowledge in the data governance space.
- Data Policy development and deployment
- Lead Data Risk management.
- Develop and support various working groups to support the Collibra implementation.
- Act as the Data Governance product owner, including Collibra platform ownership.
- Plan, agree and execute communication, training, and transition activities with stakeholders and interlocking initiatives to ensure optimum value is derived and standards are met.
- Management of globally centralised data governance content and processes.
- Identify and advocate for opportunities to improve data governance through changes in processes and systems and engaging in activities that measurably improve the quality of data.
- Ensure documentation of end-to-end data governance and management process, agreed to and in compliance with risk and security policies.
- Stewardship - manage meta data and lineage documentation, monitoring and ongoing improvements at the Group level and coordinate divisional level activities to ensure alignment; provide a central repository of data and metrics definitions for the organization.
- Lead the development, application and monitoring of data governance processes and checkpoints to manage data effectively.
- Manage reporting to governance forums, key stakeholders, and management.
- Definition of metrics to measure success and monitor progress.
About you
- Collibra experience required, and Collibra certifications such as ‘Ranger’ an advantage.
- Proven ability to implement and maintain data governance principles in a complex business environment.
- Data Policy development and deployment
- Lead Data Risk management.
- Experience working with Jira and Confluence, and Agile and/or Scrum Product Owner experience also advantageous.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships, influencing others, including senior stakeholders and sponsors.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
