If so, the Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Data Analyst) Level 6 apprenticeship is for you.

Your journey in Data Analysis at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) may start in the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) or Counter-Terrorism and Security (CTS). Whichever area you end up in, you will be supporting vital projects and joining equally friendly teams.

You will share our values collaboration, innovation and impact, which are at the heart of everything we do. Data analysis at Dstl goes far beyond looking at numbers in a spreadsheet (although we do that too) and that is simply because we work on projects that can’t be done anywhere else.

You will be encouraged to shine as you bring innovative ideas to tasks and interact directly with our customers, international partners and industry. Your studies will be supported by our training provider and the area you work in.

 

Your current situation

You may have never worked in an office, be finishing sixth form, leaving the armed forces, looking for a career change or not enjoying your current studies. No matter what your current situation is, if you are at least 18 years old you can become join us as a Data Analyst Apprentice.

Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, if you have demonstrated the required behaviours, we will support you in applying for a permanent position at Dstl

 

Job description

In this role you will:

  • Apply your studies to genuine projects as you develop data analysis skills
  • Improve your skills in Excel, PowerBI, Tableau and other programming languages
  • Collaborate and present your findings with our customers, academia and industry partners
  • Be empowered and encouraged to make the most of your development opportunities

You will have:

  • A genuine interest and passion for launching a career in data within the defence industry
  • A good understanding of basic mathematic principles and the desire to learn more

  • The ability to learn new data manipulation techniques
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

You will have these Essential Qualifications

  • 3 A-Levels (96 points/CCC) or equivalent including a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based subject which may include Computing, ICT or physics
  • 5 GCSE’s grade 4-9/C+ including English and Maths

Desirable:

  • A-Level in Maths, Statistics, Physics or Computer Science
  • 3 A-Levels (B+) including Maths or Statistics

Don’t have an A-Level in Maths, Statistics, Physics or Computer Science but are a keen hobbyist, done some online courses? Please apply and reference them in your application.

 

Important Information

Our work in defence, security and intelligence requires our employees to be UK Nationals who are able to gain a high level of security clearance to undertake the projects we are involved in to protect us from security threats. For this reason, only UK Nationals will be able to apply for this role. This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. You must be at least 18 years old in September 2024 to undertake this apprenticeship.
