We have a new 5 Year Growth Plan which sets out an ambitious path to becoming a truly global business, shaping the biggest opportunities in sport and delivering an exponential growth in revenues and profits.  This role will play a crucial and fundamental role in helping the business deliver this exciting growth plan.

Scope and Impact

Extracting insight and narrative out of data is at the heart of our work here at Twenty First Group. By working with large complex datasets that feed into our Intelligence Engine, you will help source and support best-in-class insight and recommendations using robust statistical analysis. You will also be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of data science solutions that power our Intelligence Engine.

Your role as part of the Data Science team will involve frequently working alongside our Design, Engineering, Consulting and Commercial teams to deliver on a range of key projects, over a variety of different sports. You will also be helping to present findings from projects to external stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Data Analyst at TFG you will be applying data science solutions to produce insightful analysis to tackle client problems. As such, your role will span across a range of responsibilities:

1. Advanced Insights:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical techniques for extracting actionable insights from sports-related data sets.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the data science team to enhance our understanding of various aspects of the sports industry through innovative analytics.

2. Coding & Programming:

  • Utilise programming languages such as Python, R, C++ & SQL to implement data analyses and machine learning models.

3. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate data insights into overall business strategies and offerings.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

4. Data Exploration and Visualization:

  • Explore and preprocess complex sports-related data to identify patterns and trends.
  • Create clear and visually impactful data visualisations to effectively communicate findings to internal teams and external clients.

5. Innovation and Learning:

  • Stay informed about the latest trends, tools, and methodologies in data science.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical capabilities by exploring new approaches and technologies using protected R&D time.

6. Quality Assurance:

  • Play a role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of data analyses and models through rigorous testing and validation processes.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

Data Analysis:

  • Programming proficiency in R, Python or another programming language.
  • Experience with common data wrangling packages within such a programming language, e.g. dplyr or pandas.
  • Experience dealing with relational databases and traditional data cleaning techniques.
  • Good understanding of using data visualisation to present data in a clear, compelling and visually appealing manner.

Sports knowledge:

  • A strong enthusiasm for learning about a variety of different sports.

Communication and teamwork skills:

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders from a non-analytical background.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of an agile team.
  • Ability to extract the important narratives from data.
  • Ability to suggest analysis that will help address key client questions.

UK citizenship or the ability to work in the UK:

  • This is a permanent full-time role, predominantly based in London.

Desirables

Data analysis:

  • Understanding of core statistical modelling techniques such as regression, classification, clustering.
  • Experience with the ingestion and parsing of a variety of different data sources (e.g. databases and APIs).
  • Experience with SQL and Git version control.
  • Experience working with a variety of charting libraries in R, Python or another programming language to visualise complex data.

Sports knowledge:

  • Experience analysing performance/off-pitch data for a particular sport, and an understanding of the latest use-cases of data within that sport. We work across a variety of sports so we’re keen to hear which sports you have a passion for and feel you have a good understanding of.
