Data Governance and Data Risk is a key priority and focus of the Firm for 2022. This is a high-profile role with Firmwide accountability and very high visibility opportunity for a suitable candidate to showcase talent and skillsets.

The APAC Chief Data Office is a new team and as such is looking for a candidate to support the build out of the function in Japan.  In this role, you will be executing multiple data related initiatives and projects across the CIB (although some may also be firm-wide) specifically in Japan and Korea.  There will also be opportunities to work both with the regional and global team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Primary accountability for successful delivery and implementation of a number of concurrent high priority data initiatives and projects specifically for Japan and Korea
  • Partner with the Chief Data Office executives in defining and delivering a best-in-class global data strategy considering country specific requirements
  • Partner with Local Compliance, Government Relations and Office of Regulatory Affairs in the region to stay on top of data-related regulatory initiatives
  • Perform all activities covered by the firmwide data risk management policy and standard
  • Prepare/participate in regulatory inspections/audits/CCORR testing
  • Lead and/or participate in committees, forums or other meetings to disseminate information to key stakeholders in the 1LOD and 2LOD regarding data related matters such as risks, issues, privacy incidents, complaints, regulatory developments and initiatives
  • Engage actively in regulatory advocacy ensuring that a message consistent with CIB’s global data advocacy strategy and Country level advocacy is on top of lawmakers’ and regulators’ mind across the region
  • Promote awareness of data culture across all CIB LOBs, conduct data governance training and communication strategy / campaign.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Capabilities:

  • BS/BA degree with at least 8 years of experience working in the financial services industry with a proven track record of demonstrable success in Operations, Finance and/or Business Controls/Location Controls.
  • Experience of Data governance at least 3 years such as establishing Data Governance Framework, Data Lineage and Data Model.
  • Visualization experience by using Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • The candidate must be a self-motivated leader with the ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and communication skills, including use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; project management skills are a plus.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to direct and lead others, directly and indirectly, locally, and globally.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a changing work environment.
  • Ability to own tasks under aggressive targets and effectively adapt and reprioritize to changes in plan.
  • Effective influencing and persuasion skills with groups outside of core team; ability to build consensus at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work effectively with senior management and other senior stakeholders, including influencing at this level of seniority to support the goals of the business.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills:

  • Experience and knowledge of Data Protection and Data Privacy.
