BI Team Lead

As our new BI Team Lead, you'll manage a team that acts as the central point for delivering BI reporting to the business. You'll collaborate closely with various decision-makers across the company, ensuring they have the right information at their fingertips to drive business decisions. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of BI at Motorway. You and your team will be responsible for not only improving our current processes but also implementing new, innovative solutions. You'll be instrumental in establishing standardised reports for decision-makers and streamlining our BI development processes. This is a unique opportunity to guide and influence decisions that will fulfil our mission of building the car market of tomorrow through data-driven decision making. Here are some of the things you'll do:
- Collaborate and build effective stakeholder relationships with operational teams to understand business needs and develop easy-to-use and interpret reports that drive decision-making.
- Lead efforts to develop and improve KPIs/reports used by the business to ensure they can drive decisions being made by stakeholders.
- Own established reports and data tables that sit at the heart of the business and act as a central point of contact for people to raise reporting issues.
- Develop and execute data queries to extract relevant data from our internal databases and Google BigQuery data warehouse (primarily using SQL and dbt), as well as supporting the team to do the same.
- Build data visualisations and dashboards for stakeholders to monitor KPIs and which facilitate data-driven decision-making to impact business performance.
- Work with our analytics engineers to ingest new data sources into our data stack for new reports.
- Coach junior BI team members to improve their skills and understanding of the business.
- Learn industry best practice and develop cutting-edge BI dashboards.
- Work with stakeholders to define and prioritise key reporting needs, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Establish standardised reports for decision-makers across the business, empowering them with the information they need.
- Streamline BI development processes, improving efficiency and reducing ad-hoc requests.
About you
- 4-6 years’ experience working in a BI environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns and trends in data, as well as identifying appropriate KPIs to illustrate these.
- Experience in influencing senior leadership and leading workshops to develop KPIs that reflect business decisions.
- Expert in designing and building impactful BI dashboards that serve technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficient in SQL and experience querying large data sets.
- Excellent communication skills: The ability to articulate complex concepts both verbally and in writing to stakeholders and colleagues at different levels of seniority.
- Experience in managing and developing junior team members.
- Stakeholder management experience and the ability to foster and maintain meaningful stakeholder relationships across the business.
- A self-starter mindset: Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work to tight deadlines and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
