Role: Advisory Board Member for Research on Empowering Women Graduates in Data and AI

Location: Remote (UK-based preferred)

Commitment: Part-time, voluntary basis (12 to 18 months).

Overview:

We are seeking experienced professionals to join the advisory board of a research initiative aimed at empowering women graduates in the UK by enhancing their data skills through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This research focuses on developing actionable strategies in three core areas:

  1. Bridging the data skills gap through targeted educational programs.
  2. Increasing representation of women in data-driven roles through mentorship and career development pathways.
  3. Fostering inclusive recruitment practices in the tech industry to expand career opportunities.

Advisory board members will play a critical role in shaping these strategies, bringing their expertise to guide research, validate approaches, and ensure impactful outcomes. Preliminary findings will be shared with board members within 6-12 months, with final recommendations anticipated at project completion (12-18 months), to be published and shared with all stakeholders.

The study will examine the barriers women graduates face in accessing data roles and the benefits of AI-driven skill enhancement. Key aims include:

  • Identifying pathways for AI and data science skill development tailored to women’s needs and career stages.
  • Exploring partnerships with educational institutions, tech companies, and NGOs to foster inclusive recruitment and retention practices.
  • Developing a set of data and AI-focused recommendations that companies and policymakers can implement to improve career opportunities for women.

As an advisory board member, you will provide guidance, oversight, and strategic input throughout the research process to ensure alignment with industry trends, technological advancements, and the specific needs of women graduates in tech. Advisory board members will primarily engage through quarterly online meetings (every three months), each lasting approximately 1.5 hours, and may attend additional sessions as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic advice and feedback on research objectives, methodology, and deliverables.
  • Offer insights on industry best practices and trends regarding AI and data skill development for early-career professionals.
  • Assist in identifying barriers and opportunities for women in data-driven fields, particularly in tech and AI.
  • Review key findings and draft reports, with preliminary findings anticipated at six to 12 months and final recommendations at project completion (12-18 months).
  • Support the development of recommendations and actionable strategies to increase women’s representation and career progression in tech.
  • Attend quarterly online advisory meetings (approximately 1.5 hours each) and additional meetings if necessary, to discuss progress and provide input.
  • Act as an advocate for the research within your networks, helping to share findings and support outreach efforts.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Professionals with extensive experience in AI, data science, technology, or related fields.
  • Individuals with a solid understanding of gender diversity challenges in tech and experience supporting women in STEM fields.
  • Academic, industry, or policy leaders committed to driving change and improving representation for women in data and AI.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Experience serving on advisory boards or similar committees is a plus.

 Benefits:

  • The opportunity to contribute to a meaningful research project focused on advancing women’s careers in tech.
  • Networking with other professionals and thought leaders dedicated to gender equality in technology.
  • Influence in shaping strategies that can positively impact women’s career trajectories in AI and data fields.
  • Formal acknowledgment of advisory board members in project publications and reports, recognizing their valuable contributions to the research.
