Communications and Engagement Manager – Artificial Intelligence Programme

Job summary
We are looking for an experienced communicator to promote the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory’s work in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to our key stakeholders.
Part of Dstl’s role is to help the Ministry of Defence understand how it can responsibly and ethically adopt AI in order to deter and de-escalate conflict, save lives and reduce harm. From putting AI on-board Royal Navy ships, to using machine learning for bio-imaging, Dstl is at the heart of innovations in AI, data science and machine learning for the defence and security of the UK.
We work in partnership with specialists from academia, industry and allied nations to understand and develop a broad spectrum of techniques for performing tasks and discovering insights from data using automatic processes.
We are looking for someone to communicate the impact of our work and enhance our engagement and interaction with key customers and suppliers externally, and communicate news and opportunities across the internal AI community.
You will be experienced in developing key messages to support our purpose and motivate and inspire others to act as ambassadors for Dstl. You will have experience planning and delivering engagement events for a range of stakeholders.
You will work with the AI Programme and the Dstl Communications Team, identifying how to engage diverse audiences, and bring the programme to life through creative content, campaigns, and events.
Dstl recognises the importance of diversity and inclusion as people from diverse backgrounds bring fresh ideas. We are committed to building an inclusive working environment in which each employee fulfils their potential and maximises their contribution.
We particularly welcome female and ethnic minority applicants and those from the LGBTQI community, as they are under-represented within Dstl at these levels.
