Your work will help bring our customer centric strategies to life. As Asda moves through a digital transformation, you'll be joining Asda at the right time. Leveraging data and analytics is a critical area of transformation and you would be at the very heart of this!

Your Role

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop a prioritised plan for building the desired outcomes and measures for CRM, ASDA Rewards (loyalty scheme) and ASDA-wide Data Science activations.
  • Lead a team across Segmentation, Propensity & Affinity and General Data Science squads.
  • Drive development of our core Data Product, evolved around a technology concept of feature store, integrating numerous data sets and developing thousands of features at Customer level.
  • Drive our activation programme across Segmentation and Propensity & Affinity, creating a portfolio of trusted, explainable, and well-documented models used across the whole of ASDA and integrated externally through reverse ETL.
  • Build enterprise-grade, competent and fully operationalised Data Engineering and Data Science systems, consumed via micro-service led architectures, API stores and advanced MI/BI customer-facing layers.
  • Build following the latest standards of MLOps, emphasising the clear distinction and individual characteristics of ModelOps, DataOps and DevOps, and how these entities interact, including roles and responsibilities of your team and collaboration with ASDA Technology, with clearly defined hand-shake lines of responsibilities.
  • Work closely with other parts of ASDA business, building understanding and realising synergies of working collaboratively, promoting Data Products to be co-developed and used across ASDA for Customer advantage.
  • Develop excellent ways of working within a highly skilled and evolving team, exploring agile principles, tools and techniques aimed at boosting productivity levels and innovation (JIRA, Confluence and GitHub etc.)
  • Create a discipline and focus around developing talent, build the talent pipeline, fosters an environment allowing everyone to bring their best selves to work, empower colleagues to act in the best interest of the customer and company, and regularly recognise others' contributions and accomplishments.

About You

  • A highly experienced Data Science professional with expertise in applying Data Science and Machine Learning solutions to customer-facing outcomes.
  • Experience of leading a team of high performing Data Scientists who have built and operationalised Data Science solutions.
  • Ability to explain complex modelling approaches in simple terms and develop compelling narratives that connect modelling results with business problems.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing technical resources and multiple priorities & milestones.
  • Experience in leading Data Science solutions on Azure cloud using Azure native tools, Databricks, Spark, Dask, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Experience with A/B and Multivariate test design and implementation.
  • Fully conversant in modern Machine Learning/statistical concepts including Regression, Classification, Ensemble Methods, Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of some, or all of: SQL, Python, Spark within cloud environments.
  • Strong hands-on skills in sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, and analysing large volumes of data using distributed computing platform.
  • Experience working with Data Engineering teams to efficiently productionise end-to-end processes.
  • Experienced with end-to-end modelling projects emerging from research efforts.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and thriving in an environment with rapid change.
