I’ve always been fascinated by patterns.
As a child, that meant numbers as much as music. I started playing piano at four, went on to study piano, flute and organ, won a few competitions, and was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School where I studied for several happy years. What captivated me wasn’t just performing – it was the structure behind it all. I loved harmony, analysis and the beautiful logic that sits underneath music.
At school I was equally obsessed with mathematics. My maths teacher even wrote letters home to my parents about my passion for the subject, and I still have them today. By the time I was choosing a university, I was studying Maths, Further Maths, French, German and Music, and imagined my future could combine those interests after spotting an image in an Oxford prospectus featuring an engineering student playing the oboe. That single photograph changed the course of my life.
I went on to study Mathematics at the University of Oxford, graduating with Double First Class Honours, where I found myself drawn to applied mathematics – particularly mathematical biology, fluid & solid mechanics and later on, applying that to modelling blood flow through heart tissue. What I loved most was seeing abstract mathematics solve real-world problems.
That curiosity has shaped every step of my career since.
I began in computational software at Wolfram Research, where I helped build the Strategic Initiatives group, before moving into the world of applied machine learning and AI. Over the years I’ve worked across startups, scale-ups and established technology companies, building products, data platforms and AI capabilities across sectors including government, insurance, education, defence and utilities. I’ve advised early-stage founders, helped companies navigate the journey from zero to one, and led product and data organisations as they’ve scaled.
Today I’m Director of Data & AI at Moonpig, where I lead our Data Platform, Product Analytics, Data Science and Machine Learning teams. Together we’re building the data and AI capabilities that power personalised experiences and help millions of people celebrate life’s moments with the people they care about.
One of the things I love most about leading in data is that it sits at the intersection of technology, product, commercial strategy and people. My product background has taught me that great data isn’t the goal – creating meaningful outcomes is. The most exciting work happens when brilliant technical teams are deeply connected to customer problems and empowered to turn complexity into something genuinely useful.
I’m also passionate about helping more women build careers in data and AI. Throughout my career, I’ve mentored emerging leaders, spoken at industry events and supported initiatives that create more opportunities for women in technology. If sharing my own journey – from a child fascinated by patterns, to leading data and AI teams today – encourages someone else to see a place for themselves in this industry, then that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
