Mischa Gulseven, Data Programme Manager


Education: Economics BA

I began my Data career many years ago after having fallen into a role as a report developer almost by chance! From there, I really caught the Data bug, realising that the way that Data is represented was something that could really add value.

As my career progressed, I also discovered I loved working with business stakeholders, understanding their motivations and delivering solutions for them which not only facilitated business decision making but also underpinned the basis of many business led projects. This, coupled with my organisational and team leadership skills, and my background in Data and reporting technology, eventually led me to make the step away from developer to Data Project Manager.

Since that point, I have worked with delivery teams and business stakeholders across a range of different industries to deliver reporting solutions across numerous functional and operational areas; as well as setting up delivery governances and processes specifically for Data (constantly trying to address the issue of Data always being the last element of any project to be considered!). I still get that same buzz from knowing my delivery team have done a great job and that we have made our stakeholders’ lives that bit easier.

I am excited to have recently started a new role as Data Programme Manager at DAZN in the relatively new Data Strategy and Enablement team, and to have the opportunity to bring PM best practices and frameworks to the team in order to facilitate our Data delivery function.

Jazz Johal, Head of Databases & Data Exchange


Expertise: Across Data & Database Strategy, Design, Implementation, Migration and Management of Mission-Critical Data Enterprise systems.

Focus on understanding business needs and developing data strategy that supports business strategy with user-centric data models/governance processes capable of bringing value of data to life.

Education: BSc Information System Engineering

I have worked in the Sports Media industry for nearly 20 years and for the last 5 years have been at the forefront of the growth of data at the leading global streaming company DAZN.

During my career, I have worked with different database/data technologies and in various roles.

In my current role I am responsible for:

  • Data Platform Services across the DAZN portfolio spanning on-prem systems including Oracle Exadata, Big Data MySQL, MSSQL Server through to the Cloud such as Snowflake Data warehouse and Data Lakes
  • Data Integration/Data Engineering Services – Providing tooling, framework, and monitoring for ingesting/extracting data in the Data Warehouses.
  • Supporting Data/DB services functions across DAZN such as Data Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, DevOps, Infrastructure, Broadcasts, OPS, Finance, Product and Development teams

I always tried to focus on understanding business needs and developing data strategy as well as championing data operational efficiencies, improving user experience and customer journey, as well facilitating launch of new data services that push boundaries. Through this, I have become the go to person for the company for data questions and new projects.

Outside of work my husband Bob (the builder!) and my two very sporty and active children Amba and Jai keep me busy!

Veni Manchala, Data Solutions Architect


Expertise: Data integration to create cloud-based Data Platform for Analytics (Data Streams, Lakes and Warehouses)

Education: BE in Computer Science at UVCE Bangalore, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate

I come from a Software Engineering background and have grown into the Data Engineering space. I have worked with several leading Technology, Retail and Media companies in various Engineering roles. Data has been the centre of all my work experience with projects and products ranging from Content Management, Document Management, Big Data, Lambda Architecture platforms & Data Warehousing.

In the last few years, I have worked on green field projects building modern cloud-based data platforms. Working on different volumes, variety and speed of data got me interested in Architectural patterns and best practices around data integration. DAZN is an industry leader in OTT Sports streaming and is completely data driven in its overall strategy. Today, in my role as a Solutions Architect for DAZN’s Data Platform, I am responsible for the overall design of the platform including integration, storage, orchestration, security, and governance. I love problem solving, technical research, collaborating with Engineers, Architects, Product Managers and Stakeholders to arrive at optimal solutions providing measurable business value to DAZN’s Data Analytics and supporting the overall data driven business initiatives. I feel valued contributing to the company’s key Data Strategy.

How DAZN see the data landscape changing in the UK in the next five years

DAZN is truly changing the face of sports broadcasting across the world, bringing sports fans the action from their favourite teams and players wherever they want it. Whether they are watching at home or on the move we’ve made it easy for the fan to immerse themselves in their sports.

And as part of that we’re capturing vast quantities of data that are underpinning the experience that the sports fan is getting. From ensuring that we’re bringing the best quality stream to providing a more personal experience, it’s all about how we’re using our data across our business to support our decision making.

And in the next five years we’re going to see more data-driven ways of enhancing the experience, where the customer – in real time – is proactively getting trusted, frictionless, contextual interactions that are relevant to them and in a way that’s comfortable and acceptable to them too.

There will be new ways of engaging with content that we’re seeing develop today that will generate more data in equally new ways so we’ll always be ready to connect sports fans to the sports they love, their way.
