Francisca Zanoguera's story

Francisca has always let her intuition guide her career decisions and she is constantly optimizing for happiness, because she believes happiness is the key to success, rather than the other way around.
Francisca is happiest when she can apply her expertise to make a difference, or to help others make a difference. She is a life-long learner and enjoys going back to school when the opportunity arises.
Francisca studied Electrical Engineering at Barcelona Tech (UPC), and subsequently earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics at Mines ParisTech, where she worked on the development of image and video processing algorithms. As the first human genome was sequenced at the turn of the century, she felt she could not miss the opportunity to participate in untangling the mysteries of life, and became a computational biologist – a data scientist working on understanding biological data - working for a biotech company for 11 years.
Later, her unfading curiosity took her to explore the world of business and management and obtained an MBA from IE Business School, after which she joined Expedia, where she is currently a Sr Director of Analytics. Throughout her career, Francisca has built and managed several teams of data science professionals and strongly believes that – always, but even more so in the world of technology - it’s all about people.
Francisca is the proud mother of two amazing 8 and 11 year old girls.


How Hotels.com see the data landscape changing in the UK in the next 5 years

Data looks set to become even more essential for the strategic success of many organizations, including our own. There is huge opportunity for machine learning, AI, analytics, data science and the increased democratization of access to data across the organization to improve experiences and products for customers, while facilitating new use cases and automating or improving the efficiency of business operations.
We would expect that some of the challenges seen in today’s data landscape will be significantly improved upon, if not resolved, such as: data lifecycle timescales (e.g. approaching real-time flows with greater volumes of data), enhanced data quality, clearer insights into the data landscape across whole organizations and more focus on the importance of privacy, security and responsible use of data across all businesses.
One thing is certain in the next five years: Significant Change!
