WID 2017

Barclays is a transatlantic consumer, corporate and investment bank, with 325 years of history and expertise in banking. Our common purpose is to help people achieve their ambitions – in the right way. This sits at the core of our business and underpins everything that we do. We believe that only a business driven by strong values can deliver strong, sustainable returns.

The Information Business was formed in Barclays UK to create and deliver a strategic and commercial advantage from data and the insights derived from it. Our purpose is to build an information-based business, developing capabilities that power the core business and generating new fee-driven revenue streams. Our focus is on impact – we act as advisors rather than data providers, helping stakeholders to scope and structure their problem as well as get to the solution, and articulating the choices that need to be made for the business to take action.

At Barclays we believe that every one of our employees, clients and stakeholders brings a set of unique talents and perspectives to the table, and we will only succeed if we build and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment.

For the second consecutive year, Barclays appears in the Bloomberg Financial Services Gender-Equality Index, reflecting best-in-class statistics and policies. We were also recently named on The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for the seventh consecutive year, and are active participants in the HeForShe campaign.

WiD UK 2017 is a great opportunity for us to network with inspirational women from other organizations and learn from their experiences, as well as discuss trends and breakthrough technology in data and analytics.

How Barclays see the data landscape changing in the UK in the next 5 years

Open banking is the next big thing on the agenda for us. Open data, open banking allows banking customers to give consent to third parties accessing their accounts /credit cards creating opportunities for Barclays UK. With a customer base of 22 million customers who already trust us with their financial data and interact with us on a daily basis, and a strong digital footprint, we have a strong starting position to thrive in an open banking world. This is a huge opportunity if handled correctly, but also introduces the risk of a brand new type of competitor to the industry. Effective use of data is absolutely key to success, so it’s an exciting time to be working in analytics!
