We are the world’s travel platform and our purpose it to bring the world within reach. We thrive on data and its uses, including machine learning, AI & analytics. WiD is a great example of bringing a community together to highlight the vast opportunities for a wider variety of data related roles in the UK. We think it’s especially important to highlight the role models, who we hope will inspire and develop women to grasp these opportunities. We are proud to be a part of making it happen.

Spotlight on Sybil Carolan

Name: Sybil Carolan
Job Title: Senior Director, Analytics and Strategy, Hotels.com

Sybil Carolan is Senior Director of Analytics and Strategy for Hotels.com, a core Expedia Group brand. In this role, she oversees global strategy and analytics teams looking at everything from customer analytics to marketing attribution.

Immediately before joining Expedia Group, Sybil worked across a number of other e-commerce verticals in marketing, finance and strategy roles including furniture (at Wayfair), fashion (at Urban Outfitters) and crafting (for Burda – NOHS, etsy).

Prior to this, she spent the bulk of her career in business development and strategy roles in media for Time Inc. (in Hong Kong), Torstar (in Toronto), the Guardian Media Group (in London) and as a consultant with McKinsey (in London).

She started her career in financial services first, as a consultant, with Oliver, Wyman (in New York) and later, as an equity analyst (in Hong Kong), for BNP Paribas.

Originally from Vancouver, BC, Sybil lives in London with her husband and three children. She holds an MBA from INSEAD, and an AB from Princeton University.

It’s clear that areas such as machine learning, AI and data science will continue to play a big part as they help improve the experience and products for customers and partners, facilitate new use cases and automate and improve the efficiency of business operations.
